We can have sambar in breakfast with idly or dosa and also in luch or dinner with rice.
It is a rich source of nutrients as it contain both dal and vegetables.

Ingredients
1/2 cup tuar dal
3 tomatoes diced
1 onion chopped
1 cup mixed vegetables
(drumstick,brinjal,carrot,bottlegoud)

1/4 cup tamarind soaked
1 tablespoon sambar powder
2 teaspoons chillipowder
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 tablespoon oil
2 strands curry leaf
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/2 teaspoon hing (Asafetida)
1/2 garlic crushed
salt to taste
Method
- Wash and soak dal for 1/2 hour.
- Pressure cook it for 5 whistles.
- Let the steam stop then open cooker and mash dal.
- Heat oil in a kadai add mustard,cumin and curry leafs to it.
- Add crushed Garlic, asafetida/hing let them turn golden.
- Now add chopped onions fry till translucent.
- Add turmeric powder then add chopped tomatoes fry them till soft.
- In that add diced vegetables saute them well.
- Now add chilli powder, sambar powder and salt let vegetables bind everything.
- Add water mix well and cook covered till vegetables become soft.
- Then add tamarind paste and some more water let the mixture cook well for 2 minitues.
- Finally add dal paste and some salt mix well add some more water if needed.
- Let everything cook for 2 minitues and then switch off flame.
- Sambar is ready to be served.

Note
Always soak dal so that it boils well in less time.
Here I have not added green chillies you can add if desired.
Dice vegetables in big pieces.
