Urad Dal Chutney

Ingredients

1/2 cup urad dal
10 to 15 dry red chillies
5 curry leafs
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
2 tablespoons oil
lemon sized tamarind soaked
10 garlic cloves
salt as per taste

Method 

  • Heat oil and add urad dal.
  • Fry till it changes colour and turns golden brown.
  • Remove from heat and let it cool down.
  • In the same pan fry red chillies until they became crisp.
  • Take a grinding jar add fried urad dal and chillies.
  • Grind to coarse powder.
  • Add peeled garlic cloves.
  • Add soaked tamarind and salt per taste.
  • Then add 1/4 cup water.
  • Grind to coarse paste.
  • Heat oil in another pan in that add curry leaf, cumin and mustard seeds.
  • Fry them well.
  • Then add prepared urad dal paste to tadka.
  • Mix everything well and fry for few seconds.
  • Switch off the flame.
  • This chutney taste great with hot steamed rice and pappad.
