Awadhi Chicken Curry

Ingredients

500 gm chicken
2 medium sized onions
2 tbsp coriander powder
2 tsp red chilli powder 
1 tsp garam masala powder 
1bay leaf
4 cloves
Cinnamon small piece
2 cardamom 
2 tbsp poppy seeds 
50 gm or 1/4 cup cashew nuts 
1 cup curd
ghee or oil
1 cup milk 
Salt to taste.

Marination

  • Take 500 gms chicken, add salt to taste, add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp chilli powder, 1 tsp ginger garlic paste , 1 tsp lemon juice or vinegar, mix everything well. Marinate for 3 to 4 hours.

Preparation

  • Heat kadai, add 2 tbsp poppy seeds. khus khus.
  • Dry roast till they change colour,  roasted poppy seeds add nice aroma to the curry.
  • Now switch off the flame and take out into a bowl.
  • Add 1 cup milk, 1/4 cup or 50 gms cashews.
  • Mix once, soak for 15 to 20 min.
  • Now add soaked poppy seeds and cashews with milk to grinding jar.
  • Close lid and grind to form smooth paste.
  •  Keep it aside.
  • Now lets prepare fried onions.
  • Heat oil,  add sliced onion.
  • Fry till they turn golden brown.
  • Take out and keep aside.

Method

  •  In the same kadai add 1 bay leaf.
  • Add cinnamon , cloves and cardamom.. fry once...
  • Add chopped onion,  mix once.. add 1 tsp salt  fry well.
  • Now add 1 tsp ginger garlic paste. 
  • Mix and fry well.
  • Add marinated chicken.
  • Shallow fry for 5 min
  • Add 2 tsp coriander powder, 1 tsp chill powder, 1 tsp garam masala powder, mix once.
  • Now add 1 cup curd,  mix well.
  • Cover lid and cook on medium flame for 10 min. 
  • Now open lid and check once.
  • Add prepared poppy seeds cashews paste, fried onions.
  • Mix  and fry everything well.
  • Add some water.
  • Mix well cover lid and cook for 5 more min.
  • Now open lid and cook till it leaves oil.
  •  Add coriander leaves,  mix once and switch off the flame.
  • Serve hot with roti or naan...
